Nude on a Blue Cushion – after Henri Matisse

Nude on a Blue Cushion – after Henri Matisse

Watercolour, and charcoal on paper. 1.8ft x 1.8ft (550mmx550mm)
This an intepretation of mine of Henri Matisse’s “Nude on a Blue Cushion” Other influences are Henry Moore and Picasso. I live at the sea, near a lovely sandy beach, and these reclining poses which Matisse’s models are often in are similar to women relaxing on the beach here.
Anyway, I hope I have not butchered this masterpeice! I am interested in the way artists have painted their own interpretations of famous works. For example Francis Bacon, who painted his interpretation of van Gough’s “Self-Portrait on the Road to Tarason” It’s like a cover version of a song, which if done well, can be a fresh take on the original, but if not then well…..
