Bokmakierie (Telophorus zeylonus)

The painting is based on the colouration of the front side of the Bokmakierie – a bird occurring in Souther Africa. The yellow breast, black collar and yellow throat are the basis of the work. It gets both its coloquial and scientific names from its call, often performed in duet – listen to the call:
